february wrap up

I totally failed at the Fat Mum Slim Photo a Day Challenge for February.. Honestly with moving and everything that was going on I just had no time or motivation to think of interesting photo ideas!

I did of course have time to take a heap of random snaps, so here is a wrap-up of my February, via Instagram!

I cooked and ate a lot of yummy food! Tomato soup, chocolate zucchini cake, soft-boiled egg salad & valentine cupcakes :)

We moved house!! We found some enormous zucchini's in our new backyard (currently on the lookout for recipes to use them all up!), one of our 5 different floor coverings throughout the house.. lots and LOTS of boxes. You never realise how much stuff you have until you move. Wow. Our pre-decorated mantel with mural wall :) The house is a huge 3 bedroom place built in the 70's with so many kooky details (floral carpets, wallpaper murals, weird kitchen carpet printed to look like tiles...) and I am SO excited to share it once there is some semblance of order!!

I got some cute things - like this beautiful antique locket from the 1900's (my boyfriend is amazing) and this adorable owl bag!! A valentines walk (and photo shoot). Eli's reaction to hearing his song on the radio for the first time!!!!!

I got crafty! Our countdown continues (oh.my.god.so.excited), a cute morning message in our kitchen, scrapbooking fun and name tags.

I got out and about (sometimes!) Crazy beach ball display at Australia on Collins, waiting for shows to start in Collingwood, a cute alley bird, more park walks (I will miss these!)

And of course, I cuddled with some cute kitties!! Apollo and Disney are loving the new house, there is so much more space for them to run around and explore. Apollo just adores sitting in front of the back screen door, watching the birds in our backyard :)

I've started back up with the FMS Photo a Day Challenge for this month and I'm going to try and stick to it this time!! If you want to follow me on Instagram my user name is @taygan

a change of plans...

Today I was going to share a whole bunch of fun photos and stories from our little Sydney trip.. unfortunately due to an unexpected case of Appendicitis (my boyfriend, not me.. is Appendicitis ever really expected??), we sadly had to cancel the trip.

We also won't be moving as soon as we thought, which is also a bit of a bummer but at least it gives me more time to clean up this place as we gradually move stuff across to the new house.

My sister and I went there on Wednesday night and my god, I can't wait to share some of the totally bizarre-o wallpaper/carpet choices in there.. My dad had a look too and said it seems like at least 3 of the rooms actually have floor boards beneath the carpet so we're guessing the carpet was more of a 'buy the cheapest stuff to protect the floorboards from nasty renters' situation rather than an actual 'hey brown tile-printed carpet in the kitchen, bathroom and laundry is SO hot right now!' kind of deal.

Yeah it's almost as bad as it sounds, but we're just taking it on as a challenge - I mean pretty much 90% of the homes you see on various decor websites have white walls and wooden floors.. psh, way too easy to make that look good! I've got 6 different kinds of wall coverings and 4 different floorings to contend with. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!

Anyway, lest this post be a totally text-based affair, here are the last 4 photos from the January Photo-a-Day Challenge from Fat Mum Slim. I've had so much fun doing this and have also been surprised at how hard some of the themes were.

Day 28 - Through // Day 29 - Grow // Day 30 - Down // Day 31 - Yourself

February has already started, and I'm still excited about this so I'm going to keep doing it :) It's also proving quite handy at providing little filler images for my scrapbooking which I will share once I've finished off a couple last pages (I'm doing it as a month-to-month project just because it's easier rather than daily or whatever).

photo a day - week 4

Missed another day this week.. but thats ok!

Day 21 - What You Do // Day 23 - Sun // Day 24 - Stripes // Day 25 - Landscape // Day 26 - Together // Day 27 - Sun

In other news, the rest of this week is going to be crazy - I'm in full moving-out mode and all I can think about is cleaning, packing and decorating the new house! We're just waiting for a few things to be sorted out and then we should be moving next week!!

I'm also off to Sydney on Thursday with my boyfriends band who are playing a show that night.. we'll be landing very early in the morning and leaving later the next day - talk about a whirlwind trip!

photo a day - week 3

Kind of amazed I'm still sticking with this!
This week I had a few photos that I kind of left to the last second and then panicked and rushed it so I'm not super happy with them.. It's really hard to be creative like this when you basically do the same thing every day. But I guess thats part of the point of doing the challenge - stepping outside the box and really noticing your surroundings.

Can I also just say I am SO happy with my hair there in that photo.. I had been researching and trialling the rolled fringe for the entire week and they kept failing, then I finally sorted it out just in time to wear it out to my boyfriends gig! I found the most straight forward instructions on how to do a rolled fringe (with no hair rat or anything) here.

Day 14 - Something Yellow // Day 15 - An Ordinary Moment // Day 16 - Two Things // Day 17 - Ready // Day 18 - Shadow // Day 19 - Delicious // Day 20 - Something You Saw

Once again, if you'd like to play along check it out here!

photo a day - week 2

Still participating in the Fat Mum Slim Photo a Day Challenge! This week I missed Day 10 (One O'Clock).. oops.. but I managed to get every other day in.

Still only using my iphone.. maybe next week I will start with a different camera, although to be honest it is so easy to use my phone as I have it with me all the time.

Something I have noticed while doing this challenge is that I am very awkward about taking pictures in public places. For some reason I feel awkward and strange just busting out my phone and taking pictures of a leaf or whatever somewhere that strangers can see.

So this week I have tried to get myself out of my comfort zone and force myself to just go with it - for photo #1 I had to crouch in the middle of a road to get the shot, which was a bit weird, #3 was taken while waiting for a tram on Sydney Rd and #4 was outside of my block of flats which is not incredibly public but I'm always paranoid the neighbours are watching!

Day 7 - Street // Day 8 - Something beginning with 'T' // Day 9 - Paper // Day 11 - Water // Day 12 - Surpise // Day 13 - Circle

photo a day

This year, one of my goals was to participate in the Fat Mum Slim Photo a Day challenge.
I've been wanting to start this for a while - I like how it forces you to look around you and be creative in order to follow the themes.

I've only been using my phone at the moment and uploading through Instagram, however I'd really like to branch out and use a few of my other cameras.. I'm thinking of maybe rotating them each month!

I thought I'd share my first week of Photo a Day - I'm pretty pleased I've gotten this far but there's a long way to go! I'm hoping to keep this up for the whole year, so wish me luck!

Day 1 - Today // Day 2 - Something New // Day 3 - Heart // Day 4 - The view from here //
Day 5 - Movement // Day 6 - Mine

If you want to join in, check out the Photo a Day rules and list on Fat Mum Slim!
