florals for spring...

Dress made by me, everything else vintage.

I made this dress from Simplicity 1159, a lovely and easy to make 50's dress with a V neck and short kimono sleeves. The fabric I bought last year some time and ferreted away, bringing it out only on occasion to stare at and stroke it … my precioussssssss…. it's a gorgeous, slightly shiny coated cotton and the colours are just beautiful - I was too afraid to "waste it" so was waiting for the "perfect" pattern. In the end I bit the bullet because this pattern is just so simple and pretty, so how could it possibly go wrong?!

In general life news; I've just started a new, full time job at a very faaancy store, and I am completely exhausted and out of whack, so expect the sporadic posting to continue for a while until I work out some kind of routine. I've realised that my downfall with keeping up this blog, even while I was unemployed and had all the time in the world, is lack of routine (also lack of money) so thats something I'm going to try and work on!!

  1. You are a brilliant seamstress! That dress is such a gorgeous cut and the fabric is stunning - is it vintage?
Congratulations on your new job - I totally get how you're feeling right now, it took me a few months to settle down.

    1. Aw thank you ^_^ I'm still learning, honestly, but I think my dressmaking skills are coming along nicely!
I'm not sure about the fabric, I got it from a local op shop and it may have been a bed sheet.. there is some text in what I would call the selvedge that says "classic collection by diamond textile" but a google search yields nothing. In any case its a lovely fabric and I think I still have enough to make myself something small out of :)
Thank you! I think the first few months of a new job are the worst. Hopefully it will get better soon!

    2. Ooh, actually, just found the company "Diamond Textiles" who appear to be a fabric wholesaler that started up in the 90's. So, not vintage, but still beautiful!

  2. ah, the dress is just perfect! i love love love the blue with gold/yellow. wonderful spring look, especially with your whimsical hat and glove. so glad that you're posting more again, even if it is sporadically. i don't mind!

  3. Congrats on the new job; and on the beautiful dress! I love the pattern you picked for the fabric, I think it really compliments the stunning floral detail. ♡
